HERE IS A COMPARISON OF YAMAHA MOTIF ES VS KORG TRITON: When Korg added the studio version of the Triton, all they did was add a cd-burner, 1 16 meg Piano sample, and room for 7 expansion boards (which don't add polyphony). Yamaha is doubling the standard polyphony to 128 + polyphony of an EXP board, adding the 3 layer piano, expanding the sample memory to 512 MB capacity (Triton 96 MB max) and comes stock with 175 MB of sounds (1849 waveforms + 65 Drum Kits) compared to Triton (429 Multisounds + 20 Drum Kits). Now add to that the Real-time Loop Remix for sampling and 5 arpeggiators storable with voice (1,787 types) not to mention the new effects engine, a sequencer that is 220,000 notes with 480 ppq resolution (Korg 200,000 and 192 ppq) and hard drive recognition via a Secondary USB port and firewire option not SCSI . The Korg is great, don't get me wrong, but go and try a Motif you will be pleasantly surprised. It comes down to this. Which sound palette do you want to start with, and build from there? It seems realistic to me to say the Yamaha has more to offer, and will expand readily in the future. They are trying to offer 1 line of product that has models with features that the professional will want, while still offering similar sound quality and limited features in the mid range market models. Isn't that better than a company that only offers 1 synth and the next year they come out with a whole new synth, replacing it? (Not referring to Korg) Oh ...and on the Eko Synth. Do you want Bill Gates to run your keyboard too? So windows goes down, and you have to send the whole keyboard back for repair. Oh right, that never happens. Let's leave that OS to the pro's. Yes software synths are great. But there is still something to be said about hardware and specialty manufacturers. You turn it on, and it works.

yamaha motif: excellent sounds, motif es has better features, as far as the sounds, they are better and thicker than sounds on other work stations like (you know which).
I just dont get why yamaha cannot design their professional instruments with a larger screen, while all their home keyboard/arrangers have a great wonderful blue screen...i mean compare the motif with the psr9000pro, and you will notice how much cooler the psr9000pro looks. Same thing with the An1x, the an1x looks like a Lada but performs like a lexus... come on yamaha! is it because they have 2 different exterior designers , one for the workstation market and the other for the pro-instruments? :P

Integrated Sampling Sequencer....You can use an audio sample wave as an internal synthesizer wave...what a brilliant concept! YAMAHA has done this innovation, and I now i see roland borrowing this technology for their new boards like the mc909 and the fantom s... LOL!
Anyway, I own many yamaha legendary synths... dx7IIFD, an1x, vL70 and now a motif!
ex5 was a good synth but had poor effects and bad computing capabilities. THe new motif es has 128 notes of polyphony! and another awesome technology by yamaha...MEGA VOICES! Brilliant!
For those of you triton fans, the triton's biggest feature is the awesome touchscreen, apart from that , the triton doesnt stand a chance with yamaha's technology.
Yamaha = best modern synthesizer company in history... (novation was a company that was started by receiving inspiration from a certain yamaha product..check it out on their website; nord lead learnt the 'physical modelling ' concept after the yamaha's vL1 modeller synth...don't forget the dx7 the forerunner of digital synths!)

I'm currently using the original Motif.This is all that I'm using right now.I wished that it had come out 5 years ago when I was producing Adina Howard.I had tweek the sliders and knobs on my old analog synths in order to get that raw analog sound that's not over processed with tons of reverb and delays. The Motif has got everything I need at my finger tips.

Motif Rack is what I've got, once I figured out how to make it sound (which took 5 seconds) I didn't stop making sound out of it. It's got very nice sound for all styles plus the price tag is VERY REASONABLE. Starters or Pros, this is something you need.
