This little box is something else! I picked it up so I'd have the staple brass, string, clav, polysynth sounds controllable from my monophonic MiniMoog Voyager. I was hoping for a few decent sounds to cover that stuff on gigs. What the MU-80 delivers is far more than that! This little module has some very good samples and plenty of effects. In fact, it's more powerful than the S08 I used to own. In addition, the front panel mute switch is a Godsend for what I'm using it for. Simply mute the MU80 and I get only the Minimoog. Un-mute it and I have my brass punches!
Unlike most Yamaha gear, this thing is actually a breeze to program. I barely needed the manual to get up and running. Plus the display is large and very easy to read.
If you're looking for a small flexible Midi module for your rig, I highly recommend the MU80.

This is a great module for starter. Preset are not bad. Interface is easy to use and it's not too hard to modify sounds to your liking. Plus the analog-in, you virtually got a 3-input mixer: add reverb to a vocal mic; distortion to a guitar; plus the synth - you've got a lot to play with! Performance mode is just cool, moreover four voice is too little (or 2 with analog-in). But man it's not expensive - I thought about getting a new MU-15, JV-1010, XV-2020 but price/performance -> just fits a starter like me.

Frighteningly good, especially considering how cheap they are now. I first bought an MU50, and then bought an MU80 to keep it company. The major magazine reviews didn't rave about it, but listen to me instead. The pads are a bit General MIDI, but for a digital box, some of the analogue type sound that can be created with a bit of persiverence are amazing. If you're an anorak who loves to fiddle with, program, and edit sysex this box makes it all so accesible. And THEN there is the FX......If you dont have a sound module, want to get started and can't afford a JV2080, then buy this!!!!

This instrument is great to produce your MIDI productions with. All of the sounds
are great and it is easy to use. If you are looking for a low priced GM module,
this absolutely is a recommandation.
