The Keyboard itself is excellent, with reasonably impressive velocity sensitive keys. There enough veleocity levels to allow major accents in forte's and allow excellent piano (quiet) sections. The biggest reason to purchase this keyboard is for use with a computer and sequencing software because of the high quality keyboard. The built-in sounds are excellent for practice and monitor purposes but are a little feeble for actual performance and recording. That is where the computer comes in. You can use the PSR-220 to input your tracks and layer them up in your sequencer, then run them through one of the software wavetable programs for final processing, eliminating the need to purchase any hardware with large wavetable sounds. The keyboard's General MIDI compatibility makes it almost universally compatible. The keyboard is a bargain with: 61-keys, 10 channel MIDI output, full GM, Good quality sounds, accompanyment, added-creativity tools, and a price tag well under the $200 mark. It completely beats any of the comparably priced synthesizers (under $250 from Casio, Korg, Turtle Beach, and others). I highly recommend this keyboard to anyone from beginners (even never played before) to Moderately professional players looking for another good MIDI controller.

Well I got a Yamaha Psr 220 just last year. I have just entered the music world and I think it's a good synthesizer. The songs are much better, compared to ones on the toys I owned before. I like my first synth. I have not used any other yet so that's my opinion now. My advise to any beginner who can aford this sythn is GO FOR IT. cause it can take you far.
