This is really a piece of crap. I mean seeing that this is a synth site i doubt anyone here would actually read the review for it, but I just so happen to own one that my parents bought some long long time ago and figured I'd review it. The voices are all uninteresting, toy-ish, and unusable, the drums suck also, the songs are terrible and even verge on annoyance, BUT it has ONE good feature. MIDI. I've been using this thing as a MIDI controller for a year now and erm... well.. it can do MIDI actually. That's about it, no use of controls, no mod wheels, and no pitch bend. So, my verdict: Worth $10 for use as a crappy midi controller and that only.

MaddMannMatt a part-timer user from USA (of COURSE!) writes:
I think that this is a fairly capable unit with some drawbacks, but overall it's a nice unit for tinkering. This is the middle-of-the-road synth for Yamaha's older, but more reliable and better sounding "K-Mart specials." It's got 100 voices and 100 rhythm settings (the rhythms I never had much usage for, but my kid liked to play with em) as well as a few effects like verb and mod. I used the verb to get a better sound out of the piano patch. If you used your imagination, it almost sounded like a baby grand. For those with a highly evolved mucisal ear though, I would NOT recommend this unit for you! It's kind of plinky and the construction is ALL plastic. Other nice thingies: split-keyboard, where you can decide on th board where the split will occur and have half the board play one voice and half another; dual voice, where you can double-up voices (with the split key funct., this makes for some interesting overatures!); VERY MIDI programmable/useable, this make for a great controller, mainly cuz da speakers R built rite IN! Only drawback on the MIDI (as with most, if not ALL Yamaha low-ends) is there is no MIDI THRU. Teh pitch bend wheel is a nice touch, but it has an arpeggating efect on some voices, like pianos, rather than an actual BEND. I wouldn't pay over $100 for it used. I got mine new (mostly so the fam would keep their mits off my pro stuff!) for around $300/400 (can't really remember which) back in the early '90s. The PSR-300 is a nice toy and a capable controller, but don't get it for anything else.
