I use it in a rock group and i think that it is amazing for this. I don't think that the organ sounds are brilliant but the piano and strings are great. There are probably better keyboards for playing in bands with out there so I am thinking of changing.

I bought this keyboard back in 1996 and was a just a kid who wanted to learn about keyboards and synthesizers and I believe that this keyboard is an excellent learning tool. If you don't know anything about keyboards and you need someone or something to teach it to you like a third-grader, then this is the keyboard for you. This machine has brought me much joy and knowledge. If you read the other reviews, then you know that it has a good string section, bass, and fairly decent drum kits. The user pads are fun as well. They can be manipulated to make whatever you have in there keep going. There are a couple of tricks that I've stumbled onto while owning it like you can change to drum kits to the pre-set songs. Actually, you change all the sounds. Over all, a fun learning tool and I have been very satisfied with it and I'm sure future owners will say the same.

Well. I was the one who wrote the original review of the PSR520 and after about 6 months i can say this. It's not all that. Before i bought the synth i had no idea about synthesizers. If you want a good synthesizer for the same price get a cs1x by yamaha. This will do you much more good. The sounds on it are very weak. But the pianos and organs sound good. The drums are bad. The best sound on it is Slow Strings. They actually sound real. If you're starting out this is cool. You can get it for less now because of the release of the 530 wich is much better. All in all, i can't wait for my cs1x to come in the mail.
