I've owned a few synth in the past, many were highly talked about on other sites, and I simply had to get one. One day, I was over a friends house and he had one of these amongst the rest of his gear. I thought it was a joke, but when he played it, I was totally blown away. For starters, it looks like a toy, but this IS A SYNTHESIZER. You can create sounds on this keyboard. I have made kicks/snares, bells, etc with this same PSS-480. Unlike more expensive synths, this one is EASY to use..many of you have equipment that you don't fully know how to utilize, but this synth is like magic! I get inspired everytime I turn this thing on. I had he PSS-680, and it was nice, but it was also noisy..lots of hiss from the outputs. I lucked up and got the PSS-480 for FREE, but chances are, you passed this little synth up 100 times before and thought it was a joke. Shame on you! haha!

Relly great cheap midi controller for my sp 202's and sythesizer is FANTASTIC, more better than vst sounds!! I use with dd35 drum and sh 1000 myspace/noheadchickenlive

I started playing on the PSS-160 before a friend let me have his PSS-480. Huge range of presets, although I have no idea how to work the synthesizer/midi part and can't figure out the chord programming stuff.... or Custom Drummer... aaand no instruction manual in sight.
I'm pleased with the sound of a few instruments, but quite a few of them just don't sound like their counterparts. Others will sound almost the same as a few completely different instruments in the selection, which is annoying when the sound of the instruments differ wildly in real life.
Mine has a strange problem that occured when I first played it and is happening again. At the moment, when I hit certain notes it'll act as if I'm holding the next key also, which makes it sound horrible. The first time I was able to jar it out of it by zapping the power and tapping it... now it won't stop doing it.
I do enjoy the 3/4 keys though. Learning that then going to a full size keys makes my fingers stretch a bit more than I really can in certain situations.
The PSS-480 IS a bit touch-sensitive. I've been able to do it only with Steel Drum 2 (Instrument 60). If you barely tap the key it'll sound as if someone dropped a pin on a steel drum, then all the way down is the normal sound.
All in all, good piano. If I hadn't run into the PSS-160, then I definitely would not have this great keyboard and might have not started playing when I did.

I love pss 480 I can get amazing sounds in this keyboard, his primary FM synthesis its very dirty, amazing sound. My live setup consist in: microkorg, yamaha pss480, kaoss pad 3, and a little toy keyboard with no name, also a lsdj GAMEBOY COLOR

I recently came across the PSS-480 from a friend he told me he's had it for three yrs. and never used it once. He gave it to me and away I went. I got it home and realized that this was exactly what I've been looking for! Midi hookup and a plethora of sounds to tweak with. I'm a song writer/producer and I love the retro sounds but unique sounds I can drain from it. TWO PROBLEMS. NO owners manual which I'm finding hard to come by. And I can't figure out how to record my samples to my song memory without the preprogrammed fills kicking in over what I'm doing. Any Help would be nice! I'm going to get it figured out bet that. It's just difficult to work on something thats older than me age wise.
