Strangely I managed to squeeze out some pretty satisfying sounds From this model, it was back in time when I was broke and couldn�t Afford better. I�ve been using pro-gear now-days, but somehow Miss that PSS a lot. I miss simplicity, and limitations that challenge Creativity.

I got this model when it came out - because it KICKED BUTT!! Granted, it's a little weak compared to today's models, but people forget how fast 'cutting-edge' gets blunted.
Good grief, it had MIDI back in 86! Does anyone remember how COOL that was for a home board? You could store whole songs in it and do basic multiracking! Whoa! An all-time classic.
Anyhow, I still use this one as my computer input device; I play guitar,so I'm not going to spend a lot to get another. I came here to see if there were any patch editors/new sounds for this thing. If the other guy doesn't come through with a photo, I will.

S'ok. I got a used one from a friend for $50. It made a good desktop controller due to it's small footprint, but I considered this a downside too. I don't really like smaller keys. Anywho, this unit is good (not great, just good) for a controller or a workstation (or at least for MIDI input). I didn't really like the sounds that it put out. Cheezy. It's pretty much your run-o-da-mill K-mart special that you give your six-year-old niece for a toy, not really a professional 'board. You can do some funky schtuff wid da progrmmable sounds and save em to 5 different banks. Problem is, I was never able to find out how to use these for OUTput via MIDI (I never had a manual fer da thing), so that feature was kinda useless to me as a creative tool. BUT, if you just want sumptin ta git yer MIDI inta da sequencer or computer, this would be a good tool fer yuz.

I bought this keybaord new for around $120 back in 1986 from a K-Mart. This was the greatest keyboard to me. I could record five different tracks in separate voices and play them back simultaneously and they remained the five different instruments. For someone like me, who is capable of playing one instrument part but not a profiecient piano player this was wonderful. I also loved the fact that I could create new instruments by changing the sine and cosine wavelengths of other instruments. This keyboard is wonderful. I still have it, but alas Yamaha has discontinued it and some of the keypads have worn out. I replaced the record track button once back in 91 and had I been smart, I would have went ahead and replaced all the pads as they have a few more have failed me. Is anyone willing to part with his? I found this site because I am searching for THIS particular keyboard and cannot find it. I detest Yamaha. I believe that there have to be comparable pads in newer models and they simply don't want older keyboards to be fixed. I refuse to buy their newer, junk keyboards. I'll save and buy a professional keybaord first. If you hate your PSS 480 please email me... I will gladly take it off your hands.

I think for the money for which I paid for this keyboard ($60 secondhand) I have got a lot of use and learned alot about midi apps. with this keyboard. It is great for me as a beginner. All that and without a manual WoW!
