I love that quote. "Music is an art ....technology is a tool". WOW!! If that doesnt say it all then I dont know what does. Hopefully that may help to silence the whiners and complainers who are hoping to be able to "buy" cool sounds rather than create them. To come up with really cool sounds, you need magic, you need something that cannot be bought for any price. And I give the RM1X a strong 5 because for this price you will not find anything so capable in the sequencing department. And its an instrument, a fine solid piece of hardware that anyone can be proud to use. This baby has changed my whole orientation towards MIDI and music and helped me find my way like nothin else I own. I will never sell. I love the RM1X!! It is a brilliant piece of gear! Lots of fun to use and what a great learning tool!! Yamaha did it right this time!!

I agree with below said comments in regards to creativity. Music is an art............Technology is a tool (I didn't make that up, but i reckon its a frewakin great sayin')

I fink the Rm1x is a great tool, and I give it 5 outta 5 because it does what it's supposed to. And boy, after installing a SBlive card and listening to the sounds in font, the R M 1 x sounds frewakin awesome!

My humble little personal studio consists of an RM1x, a EMU XL-1, an Akai S20 sampler, a Kaysound controller, and my G4. I transfer everything onto my computer via Midiman USB. I guarantee that the sounds that come from my cozy little studio are as good as almost anything out there, because I know that I can make them work. If you want to whine about the sounds on the RM1x, go buy a separate synth module like the XL-1(which is what I did), to compensate when you need that pure ear candy type of sound(not to mention expandability). Stop complaining that the RM1x can't solve all your problems. work with it. No shit, its not a Triton, but there is hardly a limit on creativity here. Work with it. Its a 5 for what it is.

I cant believe some people actually knock the sounds of the RM1X tone generator. Have you ever heard of outboard FX ?? DUHH!! If not, you have a serious problem in any studio!! Geez!! Anyway the real strong point of the RM1X is the tight sequencer. Make your own sounds! Or tweek the hell out of the existing sounds, but please stop crying about the presets. Who on earth uses presets? Nobody I know. Presets have their place but not in any creative music scenario unless they are massively mangled. For the price, this 16 track sequencer outdoes them all. Its really pretty hard to beat the RM1X as long as you compare apples to apples. Forget about presets ok?

Some people will always prefer soft-ware sequencing to the hardware approach (computer nerds!!) but if you are into playing an instrument rather than a mouse, you will probably love the RM1x as I do. I hate to push mouse, and I will NEVER go that route. Im a guitar player with plenty of synths and drum machines to back me up and the RM1x has become invaluable to me in my studio. I LOVE this thing!! For a little over $400 this RM1x does so much for me its amazing!! IMHO it is the BEST Hardware Sequencer you will ever find. Forget the mouse...its just not too sexy...and its not as fun as hardware sequencing. But I guess...to each his own...right? Half-way products? Huh? Is this another cry for something that does everything...oh my God...please stop whining and go push your mouse if that makes you feel better ok?
