I owned a korg esx 1 a yamaha qy 100 and a yamaha rm1x saw the yamaha rs 7000 at a new york music store and i traded em all for the rs 7000 and i am not regretting it at all it was an even trade. All the things i want in one unit sampling.i have the basic 4mb im old school sample speed it up resample erase the first one. effects eq on each track master eq 1000 sounds mad drums one of the best sequencers. takes some time to get samples and sounds from being muddy but swing on each track a mini motif its a monster people complain about slice taking too long it took a long time on my korg esx1 and it was new just master your equipment

The RS7K is an instrument that begs to be played. Once you get the hang of using it, which isn't very hard if you have any experience programming gear, than its all about making music.
Im not sure why some have complained about the internal sounds...you can make some thick kicks using the Play FX to layer them. U can make some really nice acid tracks with this and u can push out ear piercing resonance and harmonics using the filters.
Sequencer is rock solid and the sequencer Play Effects really allow you to dial in whatever groove you may be looking for. The RS just makes ya flow from starting with a simple sound, to tweaking the sound to your preference, to sequencing a pattern, and then remixing the whole pattern using the scene, mute and section buttons.
Like I said, this piece of gear is an instrument made for gear heads who like to actually make music...Enjoy..

Everything in my studio is just an extension of the RS7000. Its the absolute heart of my production. I've tried almost every DAW for the PC, but none of them are as quick and efficient for getting my ideas down. I bought this machine around 2002-03 and paid $1000. I STILL think its work that much today. The only thing I wished it had is a realtime loop remix record. I can work around it though.

ok... i wrote my opinion as !!!ONE!!! on Tuesday-Oct-12-04 at 16:30, and now 4 yrs later, im STILL usin it... the reason why? i cant find its equal as an all around machine... i think the main reason for me at this point is the 2 octave built in keyboard... i dont hafta plug in a seperate synth for sounds... its cool when u can go from idea to finished product on ONE machine, and be happy with the results... protools or a DAW is just an added plus once u "sketch" out what u want on the RS.
if ur havin trouble with the RS, dont blame it on the machine... i must admit, Yamaha didnt do a great job covering all of the aspects of the machine in the manual, and you'll be pullin ur hair out until u conform to their way of thinkin, which makes sense btw... make sure u get the LATEST OS (1.22), and start grindin... its all about repetition... i wish it had a HD... backup memory... faster processing... but i havent checked any machine that gives me everything i wanted in one box... the Spectralis is the closest at this time. the RS is unique indeed, and very flexible when it come to different genres of music... it spits and chews Hip Hop out with EASE, thats why i still use it.
if ur worried about clearin samples, dont worry, the RS is a master at twistin and transformin a sample into a brand new melody... this is the way I roll, ive made beats from everything... take ur friends newly pressed cd, and chop it up, run it thru the filters, add some drums, bassline, sounds, all from the RS... place ur vocals, and ur friend would NEVER know its his song u originally chopped up... dont believe me??? www.youtube.com/slikdarelic that'll convice ya. after all these yrs, i REFUSE to give it less than 5... Yamaha, ur still punkasses though...haha.

I've Owned the RS for about 3 years now. I got it used from Sam Ash for about $600. To me this machine is the greatest ever. I have done countless tracks on it. To compare this machine to the MPC would be an insult. The MPC is a great machine, but it is only a sampler/sequencer. The RS is more like a motif in a box. A wire tight sequencer/sampler/synth that can handle any job you throw. Checkout the music at www.myspace.com/clocworx
