I must agree with all the people that had positive things to say about the rs7000 in fact im getting a used one this will be my 4th time buying one of these. I just cant get enough of that unit it can do so much. the mpc is nice but no sounds. who wants to sample every thing. uh maybe there are these sample purists out there. but there also law suits going on for those samples.Samples are nice mixed in with other sounds you'll get a nice effect out of it.

This thing has a horrible, annoying, and stupid bug. If you write a song/patter/track or whatever, then save it to your SM card, it's alright, right? Well now, go to turn on your RS7000, load up your previous work. Now try adding on a few things then save it. If you get a "Memory card is full" error, and you're unable to save your new work, DO NOT ASSUME YOU ARE OKAY. YOUR OLD WORK IS NOW GONE. IT WILL ERASE ALL YOUR OLD WORK. This has unfortunately happened to me and is why i'm getting rid of the thing.

another good thing about Yamaha samplers, and not just Yamaha, or the RS for that matter, is the audio engine. The algorithms, converters and entier signal path that determines how your sound will end up..well.. sounding, in the speakers/sound system.

In this dept. the RS, the SU, the SY's....they all get top marks :)

Let's face it if your reading this you are probably fed up with computers and are looking for a way to make music without them. Probably you have experence with trackers and cubase, dont know how to play the keyboard very much and listen to tech-house or hip-hop. Would the RS suit me, you're asking. Well the reason for are 1. the RS is cheaper than a new computer with cubase or reason if you pay the full legal price for them. 2. The sequencer is easier to understand and master then the ones in cubase or reason. There is a noticable improvment over the one in RM-1x which was considered to be the best hardware sequencer by many. 3. If you count the number of features, efects and sounds per $ of per square inch is the highest compared to any other hardware.

Some complain about the sound, but with the sampler you can get any sound you want, and you know how they say "it's all in the mix". More important than individual voices is how you mix the sound together, and the RS is all about mixing of the sound. When I listen to my tracks I find the best sound to be made with the RS with the exception of maybe some lead sounds produced with vST insturments. Then I sample that VST instrument with CHAINER and load the WAV in RS .

Also there the workflow is very important. The RS guides you in it's own way how to create music, It has not about playing but grabing rithme or melody parts from midi files grabing samples from the radion and mixing everything together in song mode. In song mode you can mix and record evertthing in realtime on 16 track. Compare that to Ableton Live where with any controler you can mix only on 8 tracks at once. My experiance is that with the RS you can be very productive. Also ASs with most Yamaha's songs tend to sound more "happy" which is not a bad thing if you want to make commercially succesful music.

I just picked up a second hand RS7000 for $475, and it is pretty amazing. I don't have a manual yet, but I've used enough gear to get a pattern in their, remix it, get in nice and close with the note resolution function for some rolls and 'human' timing touches, tweak the filters, ADSR envelopes, and effects, and well...this thing rocks! I've owned an ESX-1 and an MPC1000. The MPC is garbage compared to this. Sorry folks...just is. Any sampler that can't pitch shift in real time and can't time-strech is garbage and cannot call itself a sampler with a straight face. This unit is everything that the MPC isn't...hands on, with loads of effects and loads of knobs for real-time tweaking. I intend on hooking this up to my Machinedrum and my Indigo 2 and going to town. For awhile, I was lamenting the fact that I sold the ESX, and was considering buying is again since they are so cheap new nowadays. Now that I have the RS7000, there is no way in hell I would do that, not to nock the ESX, but this thing is just fantastic. It's got amazing specs, and in terms of price-point, is the only wise decision one could make in purchasing a table-top sampler/sequencer. I've done my homework in this, y'all, and it has paid in full. Do yourself a favor and snag one of these. You can easily get one for under $600 used.
