The biggest mistake that people do here, who wrote the negative reviews is, that they judge the RS for what it can't do, instead of looking what it CAN do...and that, my friend is a LOT.
The RS, like all Yamaha gear is yelling to get digged...and you can dig it very deeply. The sequencer offers you possibilities to work with, that you would never thought of with software or with a MPC or MCx0x.
If you let yourself work with the RS, without any prejudges, you will definately be surprised.

jesus Christ....The Real Fax-O-Matic....what a reply!!!! :)))
you said many useful thing also to me; resampling is one of the most awesome features of RS7K, i made terrible cutted up simil distorted 303 sounds with the master v-dist on, resempling a sound, or with the lo-fi mast effect.
probably not all understand what rs7k really offers. i found it incredible, and, as you, i made some terrible sounds just tweaking and esampling internal waveform, better then a lot of sounds i listen on v-analogue synths (and i have 2, a waldorf microQ and a Nord Modular).
enjoy the music. (anyway, i'll try to do that terrible work of re pitching slices of loops etc, i've never done it :)))
actually the greatest machine i can think of.
10 on 5.

How can you call the Rs7000 a toy? Maybe the sounds, but definatly not the sequencer. It is a fully blown sequencer. It can't even be compared to the MPC 4000. BUT, with the cash you spend on the MPC 4000, you can build an entire studio around an Rs7000 that will kill the MPC. Haha. Have fun with your Akai.

The synthengine is not as featured as a CS6x, but the filter are excellent and with some tweaking the internal sounds are great especially the drums, pads and raw waveforms. The FX are of mid-range quality, like the ones inside the REV500. The soundquality is much much higher than on the RM1x, unfortunately not as good as on the Motif. You can make compositions with just the RS and a bunch of Sample-CD's but to get the real thing, add a VA, like a uQ, NordModular or any other synth. Don't forget to get good results, just like with every machine, you have to dig deeper.
The sequencer is better, more intuitive than on the RM1x and some love the concept, some hate it. Make your own picture. (Btw. the RS/RM/QY sequencer are the only ones, who are capable of different phrase-lengths in one sequence. MCx0x can only have one lenght).
Also Yamaha is currently working on a big OS Update that will fix some of the features like:
- Being able to switch between Record modes / Play without stopping the sequencer - Direct access to p - k - Being able to hear tracks in Grid Recording
It is also rumoured that Yamaha might implement new features, like full A3k sampler-engine, or at least multisample-support...and a new expansion board with plug-in cards for 150AN-PLG/100DX-PLG with extra Outputs...a RS7000 with DX7 inside???
Beat that Roland!
