I've Owned the RS for about 3 years now. I got it used from Sam Ash for about $600. To me this machine is the greatest ever. I have done countless tracks on it. To compare this machine to the MPC would be an insult. The MPC is a great machine, but it is only a sampler/sequencer. The RS is more like a motif in a box. A wire tight sequencer/sampler/synth that can handle any job you throw. Checkout the music at www.myspace.com/clocworx

This is a great piece of gear. I've owned the RS for just about 5 years now, and I've never had a problem with it. Great sound quality. The internal sound it produces is great, and you have the ability to sample. I find that once you resample the RS's internal sound and save it to wav format and transfer it to the pc/mac with a little external effects processing there is truly no need to bring it to the studio except for mastering. I've created some beats on here that no one would ever image could be produced by the RS7000. I wish it had a richer sounding synth like the motif, but the sounds are very good, and once again, there is the option to sapmle. Great product and seeing that it's a limited piece I'll hold on to this one for ever.

I have used the korg em1 x,the yamaha rm1x,and also earlier korg grooveboxes. I liked some of the korgs(em1 x)sounds,but i felt it lacked depth,so i got bored with it and sold it.I then purchased the Yamaha RM1 X as it was dirt cheap,just for something to mess about on,but was pleasently surprised by the layering capabilities,and great sequencer.Of course the sounds were not very good,so when i see the RS7000 for sale for £300 on ebay i got it. Now,i like to MAKE music,not just press buttons,and with this machine i can make music.Some people say the sounds arent all that,well you have to use musical ability and imagination to get what you want.The drums are good,and remember you can change the decay,depth etc,and beef it up with the available compression,distortion etc.Quite simply,i have made some tough beats on it,and believe me i am fussy about my beats.It is the best beat machine i have used,but you need to KNOW how to put it all together.As for the pads,i have heard alot better,as i have used triton keyboards.The bass sounds are good,but once again,use your imagination,because you have to work for your sound sometimes.Basically,this is a top tool for your drums and your basses,and you can get some gritty sounds. I have used the sampler briefly,and all seems well. For the money,you cant beat it.Its better than the korg EM1 X,because it does so much more.I found the EM1 X was like a sketch pad,and the effects were weak.

This machine is awesome, I have access to just about anything you can imagine and for some reason I always come back to my RS7000.
I bought it about 2 years ago, walked into guitar center and it was a discontinued floor model, the best part it it was fully loaded by the manufacture and I only paid $200. since then I've bought 2 others for back ups both reasonable (under $600)
Never one problem with it, why this never caught on is a mistery to me, I've actually got pretty real guitar and bass sounds with a little knob tweaking, which makes life easier when I wake up in the middle of the night with a spontanious Idea. I've actually even used some of the drum sounds as replacments for acoustic drums.
this thing travels with me every second of the day and stays on my night stand when I sleep. Go on ebay and buy one now.

Great machine, especially for learning how to write electronic music as you are forced into it's limitations. Don't get bogged down by a million plugins and options by learning to write on a computer. I have released loads of breakbeat tracks using nothing but the RS7000. Feel free to have a listen for yourself: www.myspace.com/mattdopamine It's not without it's flaws and I suggest you use a scsi hd instead of smart media for backups but when you know this machine inside out - there's nothing stopping you from writing releasable quality tunes.
