RX8 I owned this thing for 3 years and loved it too death. The sounds are'nt amazing and theres not many of them but they're pitchable by a long way which is nice. The Bass and snare sound very much like a real drum kit for a drum machine of this age. The assignable outputs are a nice touch. Its also great for controlling other kit and if you can get one its worth it for this alone

Just got it today but I really like the sounds. I found the manual at the Yamaha Manual Library (see the link) and the learning curve on this machine is very easy. Within an hour I was programming it. As a church musician I need realistic sounds and this machine has them. The buttons and controls are clearly marked and the display is easy to read and follow (unlike, e.g. the Boss DR-770 which hates my bifocals). So far, I'm impressed. A powerful but easy-to-use little machine.

i recently bought a yamaha rx8, I need to know how to work it. Someone sold it to me, b/c he had purchased another drum machine. I need to know how to program beats, erase beats, plug it in to my stereo to make the sounds come out the stereo speakers, I really need a manual, but I would appreciate any info you can provide. Thanks so much.

Nowadays for me the Yamaha RX8 is only usable as a better metronome. This is due to the fact, that its sounds are immitations of natural drums and percussions. There's no chance to use it for electronic music with its artificial sounds. So if you want it for your homerecording, you must be aware that these sounds fit merely for playing along with natural instruments like guitars, bass, etc.. Therefore I bought it 10 years ago. I needed some drums for my Yamaha 4 Track, while I was playing bass and guitars into it to put down some ideas. Now the RX8 is not enough and unfortunately the sounds are too conventional to gain a status like other old drum-machines, we all know.
