Great keys and great sound!!!The AWM2 is simply fantastic and you can get nice pads, strings and synth brass, other that the nice preloaded triple layer piano

This is a rocket hot keyboard/controller for either preset players or timbre tweakers. After years of driving modules and other 'boards with a KX88 - which finally developed a dead octave - I started looking for another mothership. My budget and the awesome "Satellite" patch led me to spend a few nights with an S-08, but the general weakness of the other sounds, lack of an arpeggiator, and the wack wall-wart made me take that back to the dealer tout-suite for a trade-up. And, as someone pointed out, the S-0x series have a downgraded output; as if it couldn't cope with the full range of MIDI. I've never regretted it. The keybed on the S90 is rock solid, the buttons and sliders have a quality, durable feel, and the architecture is pretty intuitive, if you understand Yamaha-ese. It cuts well in the mix as a standalone keyboard, and the potential of adding additional card-based synth engines is attractive. When I win the lottery I'll upgrade it with the VL card and pick up a WX-5, and maybe rack it up to an FS1r. Reliability will be bomber if it's like any other piece of Yamaha gear I've ever had, KX notwithstanding. The sounds I won't get into: either they work for you or they don't. Two things to consider, though. One, there's a universe of sound out there for those who are willing to experiment - witness FM synthesis. You just have to start somewhere you're comfortable with. Two, consider how the sound you think is thin in the store will layer up with your other patches/keys/modules. Bottom line, I like this 'board.

I originally wanted only a midi controller and purchased the M-Audio Keystation 88 Pro. Big mistake! I didn't like they cheap plastic keys as they felt real spongey. I went to my local Sam Ash to try a Studiologic/Fatar and it felt much better, but I instantly fell in love with the S90. The problem is that it was $2,000 although it comes with the Triple Layer Piano and all the Motif sounds. As I went through the sounds I quickly realized how beautiful this Yamaha is. IT is loaded with tons of fantastic sounds, 2 slots for PLG expansion, slot for a memory card, and a USB midi interface to plug directly to my Powermac. WOW!
I decided to spend the cash on this synth and the guy at Sam Ash knocked off $120 so it was $1880 + tax. The Balanced Hammer Action keys are the most intriguing part of this piece. I absolutely love them and couldn't ask for anything better. I am SO GLAD I sold the Keystation 88 for this. And to have all those beautiful sounds too! :)
