Sure I'll add my 2 cents. Got mine for 190$ used but with all the adaptors for headphone to 1/4" included which was kinda nice. I dig the gritty sound of the playback personally but thats cuz I make jungle which benefits from a raw kind of sound. I'll probably get a S20 just like some of you other people, but I'm good with this one for kinda a while: Recording is easy, playback is easy, all you have to do is pay attention dammit! Dont bother getting one if you use Mac...dumps will be out of the question. I use the SU10 in conjunction with a Korg Prophecy, ER-1, and an AN1x, and all you need to do is record your loop at whatever speed you want it to play back and then trigger from a cooperative drum machine such as the ER-1. Just edit it carefully to make sure there's no clicks! No this thing isnt going to do your taxes or your yardwork like some of these whiners seem to expect it to, but for a stripped down hassle-free kind of sampling unit this thing will definitely do the job. If you're creative, you'll even find creative uses for the filtering even though its kinda gay that you cant filter individual samples. Its a good unit, but dont pay 300$ for it, that's just ridiculous. Peace, and

michael trommer a professional user from canada writes: me one of these, a korg pandora fx thing, a portable minidisk recorder and a small sony stereo mic...GREAT portable studio set-up...surprisingly versatile, and by dumping stuff back and forth to the minidisk thru the FX, you can basically edit the samples on the SU10, i.e. create some sort of envelope by tweaking the volume and so on...although i have a full studio set-up, I find myself using this portable set-up more lately...

The su-10 is definetely phat for the loot. If you dont mind lo-fi, there is plenty of sample time to create grooves. You gotta be on point when sequencing because there is no quantizing or anything. The ribbon control is good for pitch changing but the scratch sound is bullshit. No memory cards are available but samples are retained even when the power is turned off! In the future I plan to buy an s3000, a Mac, studio vision and whatever synth. My su-10 will play a role in this setup. 5 out of 5 because of the price

fun, yes. but the fun wears off quickly, and what you are left with is a sampler that has severe limitations. on my mac, i was not able to perform sysex dumps, so there was no way to save samples. but, since you really can't do much in the way of editing, it's not like you've lost a lot of hard work if you delete your samples. if you are a dj, i can see that the effects might be useful, but they come at the cost of polyphony (which is already meager), and often distort. am i bitter? not since my place was robbed, much gear stolen, and the insurance money paid for an akai s20. the akai, for a home studio set-up, (and with the very necessary ram upgrade) gets my vote for the best all-around budget sampler.

hey, mike tv you are a dumbass. i think you need to open your mind a little and understand that music is in the hands of the beholder. there are many different ways to be creative in today's many different kinds of music, and you need to learn that. anyways, the su10 is a cool piece of equipment, but it needs to be more versatile as far as the sequencer is concerned. well i'm going to stop writing now. see you later. rave on peace, pot, microdot smoke weed, eat acid on extacy, and love each other as you listen to bob marley and smokefatty blunts and play with your samplers and drum machines and 303's and turntables and enjoy life. laters, chuckfromcali
