I just got this today. I definatly can't stand the limitation, but all I know is that I slapped 6 batteries in there, hooked it up to my TV/VCR and sampled some crazy phrases. They came out so good, I was very pleased with the result. The effects are decent, I really like the remix effect. I only paid $200 BRAND NEW for this thing and it sure was worth it. Also, this is my first sampler and I only had to look at the manual like a few times before I knew how to work everything. It compliments my Cs2x and my Rm1x very well. Great budget minded sampler and very good for the price of $200.

This thing really is a P-O-S compared to the SU700 which is still a wierd sampler and didnt go over big for Yamaha. Either get a SP808 form Zzounds for $599 and wait and spend $1399 for a RS7000 which wont be out until the end of the year according to Musicians Friend:

I just got this and it seems to be a little less than i expected. I used to own a SU-10 which I felt was worthwhile because it was cheap.
Like a lot of other people have said, the loop fuction which matches all the beats to the same bpm seems pretty lame. You get pops in the samples, it's much like if you listened to a CD skipping.
The thing that they took out is pitch shifting. On the SU 10 you can easily lower the pitch(simultaneously slowing the beat down). The SU 200 has got a time button which you can change the tempo, but not the pitch. It only does this for one pad at a time. Again if you speed up or slow down too much, it has that popping noise.
The good part about this is the addition of storage onto cards. It's more gig worthy - the screen is backlit and the buttons light up. And there is also the effects section which adds delay, distortion, slice, and modulation. I guess this makes it almost worthwhile, but yamaha could have fixed the popping problem before adding some of these effects (that scratch feature, now come on!).
I will probably get rid of this and save up for something better. I don't know much about other samplers but it seems i could get more for $300.

does anybody know if this machine can resample while reciving midi output?? i cant get it to, if it cant i'll be fairly disapointed.
the fx are really really great, they almost make the machine worth the 350 alone..almost.
but what i want to know, can i sequencer drum hits and stuff from my su200 in a software sequencer like cakewalk or cubase?? i havent tried yet as i need to get a midi interface first. if it can, then this machine is deffinately worth the money. if it cant, you should probably look into something else unless you just want it for live use.

Has anyone else tried to record with the SU-200? I'm trying to do just that, and the popping within the samples as they sync up and loop is driving me nuts!!!! If anyone has any ideas to cover up the annoying popping, PLEASE e-mail me! Apart from that, the unit works just fine though the low onboard memory is a bitch to deal with. Thank God for third party smart media cards! And for the price thay could have included a midi out (I would have loved to be able to record some of the knob and ribbon manipulations) and maybe an archaic sample dump scheme (instead having to find a way to put my personal samples manipulations onto a smart media card via an adapter). There's too many midi timing problems to get into. Suffice to say, I may only use the unit live with a small keyboard, sequencer & drum machine set up. It's a great tool to get ideas up and going, but rest assured, you'll be spending some time transfering what you've done during the jam, into a REAL SAMPLER. It's indeed a PHRASE SAMPLER...but then who knows, maybe there's some way to disguise the popping.
You would never tell by my review that I would be sad to have to part with the unit...there are some way cool things you can do with it! But the popping is driving me mad! A big 10 for creativity and ease of use, but a darn shame about the noise...a real 3 in my opinion!
