tip for those looking for a replacement - check out the zoom sampletrak drum machine sampler. this is the best little phrase sampler out there. awesome effects, smartmedia storage and an ok drummachine section. way, way better than the yamaha.

Very fast in use, you can sample, trim and BPM sync samples in less then 3 minutes i.e. while listening to a song just once. About the click problem they occure only in loop-track mode manually syncing samples using the sync to master function eliminates clicks. The 22kHz standard mode with efects sounds even better then 44kH without effects so I personally use 22kHz most of the time. For certain styles of music even the lower 11kHz grade sounds better. What it could use is more efects and easiar loading/importing of samples/waves, and a better resampling function which would automatically trim the sample to it's original lenght.

NIGHTSend a hobbyist user from Australia writes:
i bought this silver puppy a few months ago and although they didnt chuck in a power pack with it, it had been working great with my makeshift power supply. for looping lots of patterns it is really not all that good, the samples will have to be looped perfectly (memory card with *.wav files are ideal) although it is fun to stuff around on. As a trigger sampler, it can be terribly beautiful, you can have lo fi, or good quality sounds, drums, and you trigger them off a computer sequencer, also using this method you can tweak complex rolls with the sounds on the sampler , theres cutoff and tech mod and more. its not all in the sampler itself if you ask me , the big bucks are in the user's head, and how they , as a person, use this tool of creation.

if you can find a BOSS SP505 then i would recommend buying it.this Yamaha unit is nothing to be used seriously, don't waste the money.as for the Korg ES-1,it's only good if you want to be another lame ass techno act.SCREW TECHNO!!! seriously though,BOSS SP505,that's the ultimate tool for the price.check one out if you can.
