hey, I am wondering about scsi hookups. I can't get my su to work with my iomega 100 zip drive. Can anyone tell me what they use that works. I have a feeling that the su700 doesn't read that brand or that type of scsi. Also, do you recommed Jaz or Zip drives?

To anyone wondering about changing the speed w/o changing the pitch, there is a way using the Loop tracks and then resampling them on the a composed loop track. I can't describe it exactly but I know it is possible.

I have had the SU for about 1 year now and i absolutly love it. Everything i've wanted to do with it i have been able to even if it took me a while to figure out how. I love how easy it is to record. Just press record and improvise what you feel, then if you mess up somewhere, go back and edit it. This is the way i think it should be. Unlike the junk drum machines where you link phrases together to create a song. Thats horse shit. Playing the SU in realtime is great as well since it has such a user friendly layout. I love how you can set each parameter to the samples main screen. This saves a lot of time and button pushing. Even though pushing buttons in a live performance looks good.

I think the first option needed, if you have any extra ram, is the zip drive- More so than the full ram, even though I have 68mb as well. For you people having trouble with the zip drive, try turning the zip on before the sampler. I always do this, it always works right. If i dont do this it wont be recognized by my machine. Also it does take a few minutes (no more than 5)to load some of my most complex songs but you will have enough time to load it while the song before it plays out (if you have two). I dont but my friend has an SU as well. Anyway my point is, the zip drive is alot better than the floppy, which in my opinion was a waste of money by yamaha. Wouldnt it be nice if it had an internal zip like the new mpc or the 808.

The effects are nice and once again the layout is awesome. The one major drawback of the machine to me is while sampling. Sometimes you wont catch the whole sample if it decays to a low volume. However you can help fix this by adding a hall, canyon or other effect to it. It has crashed on me once or twice and i think it was related to the Midi clock. Both times it was set to external midi clock. Always keep a backup of your work. I have two. One set however, is made of fully sequenced songs, the other is what i will use for live performances where i do the work.

Overall i love this machine and will not get rid of it. I will not lie, I have not use the mpc, but from what some people tell me they like the SU more. I will use the mpc one day and i will probably buy one since i need two samplers. Plus if you have both kinds you obviously get the good features of both machines. I will probably wait till the mpc 3000 comes out though.

I dont work for yamaha or any other music related people. Jett Rink
