I'm happy to say that the sounds on this thing can still (12 years on!) be very fresh. Forget the sequencer (and the disk drive since it'll probably be broken, as mine is), hook it up to your favorite ed-lib software (downloaded SY Manager 2.2.2, works great), and enjoy the nice fast synth keyboard action and the unique sonic spaces this offers. When I had to choose between selling this or my k5000s, I sold the kawai!

Strange synthesizer this one. I last used the SY77 back in 1997 when we used to have one in our synth room at College. I think someone probably tried to reprogram the sounds in it and it just sounded really strange.
I know it had a 16 track sequencer in it which I never found out how to use and, unfortunately the built in floppy drive was damaged.
It was a great looking synth though and I seem to remember that there was a cool animation and a greeting message which you could edit that would be displayed each time you powered the synth up. I have also read since I used the synth that it was one of the ones that combined FM and AWM synthesis.

I got mine when it first came out - forever ago - have had to replace the disc drive and all the letters/numbers are worn off the buttons I've used it so much. I've never seen a used one for sale so others must love theirs like I do mine. I hope to one day get a second one - one for home and one for the road - wouldn't it be cool if they could propagate?
