The TX7 has much more sonic brilliance than my XP50. It's MIDI response is faster also, which becomes a pain when I try to layer the two. Decent sounding analog style string patches are out there, but you have to look. This synth's strong points are its mallet percussion, electrc pianos, clavs, basses, harp, harmonica and wierd digital effects. It's interesting to see how some extremely dynamic DX/TX sounds have been watered down as static samples by later sample playback synths. One advantage over the original DX7 is the TX's ability to store bend/mod/aftertouch settings with the patch instead of one group of settings for the entire bank.
