Well this synth took my breath away (oooh bad joke!!)..I was expecting a Sax , trumpet , violin box BUT Jeeeezzzuuss !!!! I've been playing synths for a while now and I have never heard anything like this little baby !! It produces the most bizzare , way out , mind manglingly wierd noises imaginable...It makes the Prophecy look like a cheap toy...The Acoustic simulations are spookily realistic , It does THE BEST TB303 sound I've heard on anything included the rebirth software , ARP 2600 and Axxe sounds oooze forth ..It is simply an awesome beast. I must admit when I first heard about it I was put off - but I think Yamaha screwed the marketing of these machines , if you get time to play with one you will gladly hand over your hard earned $$$. I cant recommend this enough....once you hook in the breath controller , the footpedal , get twiddling the wheels and programmable sliders the whole thing just comes alive. I'm gutted that its not polyphonic but I guess in time it will come. I want lots of the monsters. The O/S is a little bit confusing but just randomly adjusting parameters produces astonishing results...I have to tear myself away from this synth . It is one of the most significant machines of the last decade and its destined to become a classic . You can get them now for sensible money and my advice is get em while you can...oh and make sure you get Version 2 software (if not you can buy the upgrade ROMs from Yamaha for about £50).... this synth floored me when i got it ....fakkin awesome.

Steveo`s right, this is one serious unsung hero. I have both the VL7 and the VL1m (bought both from the big turnkey sellout a while back) and the combination is awesome, its like having 3 VL7s. you need at least one Keyboard version as the amount of control is incredible and the sounds of either are not comparable with the crippled VL70m which superficially sounds similarish on its own, get it in a mix and the 70m sounds like a Kurzweil sample, the VL7 or 1m still sound REAL. One gripe is that it only has 64 memories (64x2 on the 1m) but at least it has a floppy drive to load more. as Steveo says "fakkin` buy one" cos even though the Prophecy has dropped almost to £300 and has a "log" the VL IS a far better experimental organic sounding psycho PA killer.
