Discontinued synth. Don't pay more than a grand. The only difference between the sw60xg and db50xg computer cards is that the QS300 can do 4 element voices natively. Here's the kicker you can get software to use the 4 element voices in the cheapo sound cards. The is lots of software on Yamaha's site to do this. They didn't tell anybody because they still wanted to sell the QS300. The only real limitation is that you could only use 8 4 element voices at a time but who cares You can load in the patch sets for the QS300, giving you a thousand patched for free. Get a sw60xg, it's awesome powerful and you can edit with several patch editors including XGedit by Gary Greggson.

Just purchased a new QS300. Will give a review soon. Preset and User sounds are good - especially if your into analog type sounds. It has a decent resonant filter so its good for those 'acid' sounds. One question - why did Yamaha omit 'Overdub' mode on the sequencer - this makes life a little difficult, although you can get over it by mixing 2 tracks that are asigned to the same midi channel.

Overall - a sharp keyboard.

RAVES - an easy to understand display - most of the displays are

extremely inuitive to understand. Editing gives 2 resolutions, 1) by

measure (copying - etc) & 2) by actual midi code.

RANTS - some of the sounds are so hard hitting that I blew a

speaker. Sometimes, working in the phrase mode is difficult

especially when trying to get the timing right (I wish it had a

rehearse mode...
