The DX27 is a great value and its unique synthetic , pure FM sound can balance out a gritty lead, It also has quite a bit of power on the low end. The factory patches are absolutely terrible (except for solid bass &5th string). A versitile addition to any studio. Great as a complement or standalone

When it was released in 1985, the DX-27/21/100 series was a cost effective, entry level way to get a synth. The patches are somewhat sterile sounding and many are repetitive. The electric pianos and bells are rather good. Programming these buggers are horrendous to program. Do not attempt! You will only hurt your brain. With no velocity sensitivity or aftertouch, these boards are weak as controllers. For a beginner, these boards once were fine starters but with the amount of used gear on the market for someone planning on playing live there are better buys. (Used prices should range from $175 to $250) Avoid the BC-1 breath controller! You have been warned!

I've had a 27S for years- Been a long time friend. I read an ad in Keyboard many years ago for a touch sensitive bar that sat under the keys & gave velocity!! anyone else remember?? I'd pay $$$$ for it!!

It's okay... But I sure Miss some analog buttons....

I just read that this has a filter in the review...and that is a very false statement....all the DX synths have no filter....but that doesnt mean it cant emulate a filter...
