peetr.... ADAT vs TDIF (28-Aug-01  03:13PM )

- I've finally rounded up enough money for a Yamaha 01v. I figure that I should take advantage of the digital mixer by interfacing it with my computer digitaly. I have a few options: either ADAT or TDIF. From what I can gather, they are just about the same (8 channels, etc.) Is there any advantage to one over the other that I have missed? Also, can anyone recomend a good card for my computer (I'm thinking ST Audio DS2000.) Thank you all for your time.

- I like ADAT better since there are more audio cards & options for it -- RME Hammerfall, Creamware Pulsar, Dakota, DSP Factory (w/ ADAT option), Korg Oasys, etc... and then you've got all the ADAT converter boxes, including the RME one (insanely good sound), Apogee, Alesis AI-3, Fostex units...

peetr.... Re:ADAT vs TDIF (29-Aug-01  02:29AM )

- I think I'm going to go for the ADAT. It does seem the 'standard.' besides, my current interface (Echo Layla) supports it. I just didn't know if most people felt strongly one way or the other. Judging from the amount of replys, I'm guessing it's just up to personal pref. Anyways, Subhuman, thanks for the advice.

nick@sonic.... Re:ADAT vs TDIF (29-Aug-01  05:48AM )

- I'm struggling with the t-dif at the moment.

It can be very fernickitty about cable wordclock etc.

I would go for the ADAT interface as it is a little more standard and is 24-bit compatible.

I'm about to get modded 01v cards for our O2R as I don't want the hassle of temperamental technology.

The modded cards can be found at Aspen Media (UK) 01442 255 405 and are around £345 + vat

Pulse.... Re:ADAT vs TDIF (29-Aug-01  01:02PM )

- Nick, Might you kindly explain what these mods are? I have the standard ADAT card in my 03D. Works perfectly. But I understand they are limited to 20bit. Are the modded ones 24bit? Also, 01v and 02R/03D cards are completely different in terms of their fittings.. Right? Just curious..

subhuman.... Re:ADAT vs TDIF (29-Aug-01  03:00PM )

- Sometimes on my 03D, I lose sync with Pulsar. I didn't have this problem on my 01v, ever. It seems to work fine on the 03D, but after it warms up can lose sync.

I'm wondering if I clock my system off the 03D's wordclock, if everything would be solid again. It definitely seems the 01v's ADAT card is slightly better.

nick@sonic.... Re:ADAT vs TDIF (30-Aug-01  06:56AM )

- The new cards for the O1v use different ADAT chips which are not limited to 20bit. The thing is, to work in the O2R they need to be longer (full length) Aspen can supply the extended O1v cards to work in the O2R

- Nick, thanks for the info, I would have never thought such a thing would be available. Here's a link, they've got a US dealer too...
