Whatever Avid/Digidesign have done to M-Audio since their acquisition, it seems to be working, the stand was really buzzing, we got the impression that they are a company on the up. Unusually, we encountered several smiling, happy, software developers - all pleased that their products are being well represented by the growing M-Audio empire. One thing's for sure, the tie-up of last year was bound to result in some sort of broadening of the ProTools hardware platform, and Messe was where the anticipated announcement was made. ProTools M-Powered means just what you'd expect - ProTools can be run on selected M-Audio hardware. The special version of ProTools appears to be based on the current LE version (6.7) so you can run 32 playback tracks, 256 MIDI tracks meaing you get Beat Detective plus over 30 included RTAS plug-ins.
