Speculation has now reached new levels of intensity in the drama that has been the potential Rolling Stones reunion. Keith Richards has confirmed that the band will at least be getting together for rehearsals.
It's not quite confirmation of a Stones reunion world tour, but it is a step in the right direction for fans of the world's most successful live band.
"We're just going to play a little together," Richards told Rolling Stone magazine. "You don't necessarily want to rehearse or write anything – you just want to touch bases. That's a good start: me, Charlie and Ronnie. Mick's welcome, and I'm sure he'll turn up, but right now we just want to get our chops down."
The band's 50th-anniversary is fast approaching, next year will commemorate half a century of music for the band. Keith and Ron Wood have always been publicly open to the idea of a reunion, but relations between Mick Jagger and his songwriting partner broke down last year when Keith made the size of Mick's manhood the subject of a joke in his autobiography, Life.
In an interview with The Observer this Sunday, the Stones talked discussed the possibility of a 50th-anniversary tour. The subject was met with varying reactions from the band members, Richards and Wood were enthusiastic, but Charlie Watts seemed indifferent. Mick was typically... well, Mick: "I have no idea. We don't really get together that much as a group."
