May Confirmed The Release // CC // Eddie Mallin

Brian May has confirmed that duets performed by Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury have been approved by the Michael Jackson Estate, and will be released as part of a new Queen release.

The record will be released in 2012, and will feature previousy unheard recordings by Queen and Freddie Mercury.

The MJ/Mercury tracks were recorded in the 1980s:

"Michael used to come and see us when we were on tour in the States. He and Freddie became close friends, close enough to record a couple of tracks together at Michael's house, tracks which have never seen the light of day," May told the Evening Standard.

The move is part of a new wave of activity for Queen. The band are also planning a follow-up to their hugely successful musical, We Will Rock You, and have hinted that they were considering playing live-shows with Lady Gaga as vocalist.

Roger Taylor is also heading a talent contest to form a Queen tribute band, potential candidates were asked to post videos of themselves posing as members of the legendary band. The contest is called Queen Extravaganza.
