SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, is about as big as it gets when it comes to showcasing the best new artists around, so it's fitting that Dave Grohl, a man with an incredible history in music, from playing in cult punk bands to arena rock bands, is to deliver the 2013 keynote speech.

Foo Fighters might be on a break at the moment, but that hasn't stopped the workaholic musician from drumming on the new record from Queens of the Stone Age, as well as numerous other appearances and projects which he constantly seems to be juggling.

Dave Grohl fits in perfectly with what SXSW is all about, it's a coming together of the most promising new rock bands and artists around the world, as well as some artists who have already more than proven their worth.

Grohl is a champion of new music and has grafted from the very bottom to the very top, twice.

The SXSW keynote speech has somewhat a reputation for throwing up numerous quotable lines, but also discussing some of the issues facing musicians, with Bruce Springsteen's speech last year focussing very much on the history of rock and roll and its relevance today.

Other keynote speakers confirmed for 2013 include Matthew Inman of comedy website, The Oatmeal, and Elon Musk of space technology agency, Spacex.
