Avid today announced a new live system that allows you to run AAX plugins on HDX hardware with up to 64 inputs via modular stagebox, all hooked up via Gigabit CAT5E cable.

There are three components to the system: The S3  control surface with 16 faders, rotary encoders and metering, the 2U E3 HDX DSP engine which suuports up to 64 input channels, and the Stage 16 Remote IO which gives you the stagebox This can be expanded to up to 64 input channels.

The HDX E3 engine allows you to run Protool AAX plugins for taking the mix from the studio into a live situation. You can also hook up a computer system to integrate with a ProTools rig for live recording and virtual soundcheck which has been a feature available on Avids other FOH systems.

We're not talking Berhringer prices here,  the basic 16 input setup costing around $17k, but the footprint is significantly smaller than many other pro digital FOH systems, so on a tour you could be talking a lot of extra seats sold.
