iZotope tells us that Neutrino, a free plug-in for Mac and Windows, can add that final polish to your mix. Neutrino is a Spectral Shaping plug-in that the company says offers a glimpse into their newest mixing technology which will be coming soon. They say that you can insert Neutrino on multiple tracks across your session to reveal a subtle amount of detail that can help elevate great mixes to a new level of refinement.

A spokesperson said, "Neutrino is ultra efficient and designed to add balance and focus to a mix when applied to every track, conceptually similar to analog summing or console emulations. With simple controls and low-CPU usage, you can achieve better balanced mixes without sacrificing dynamics and sonic integrity. Best of all, it's free to download, and easy to use. Use it to reveal subtle amounts of detail that can elevate great mixes to a new level of refinement. Add balance and focus to your mixes by applying it to every track or the major mix buses - just like analog summing or console emulations."

Neutrino includes 4 modes, tailored to specific instrument types:

  • Voice: Adds clarity and detail to help vocals sit on top of the mix.
  • Instrument: Preserves the authentic character of the instrument.
  • Bass: Adds punch and weight to electric, acoustic, and synth basses.
  • Drums: Emphasizes transient detail to avoid "muddy" mixes.
