Synthesizing An 808 Drum Kit

US Monolake models each element using Ableton's operator      16/03/21

Robert Hencke aka Monolake is known for his contemporary electronic music, his laser works and as co-creator of the music software Ableton Live. In this video, he shows how to model the TR-808 drum kit - kick drum, snare, high hats, toms and clap using FM synthesis within Ableton's Operator. In generating each sound he explains the process and the methodology behind replicating the classic kit, and offers tips for altering the character of the sounds.

It's a superb insight into sound design for some of the most iconic and well-known electronic drum sounds. The video is hosted by educational website Kadenze, who are offering a free course in `Sound Production in Ableton Live for Musicians and Artists'  available to join here
