bought one to replace my roland 606/808/909 setup with some fresh sounds, and it does more than that. The synth engine is basically the s-2000, same res lowpass filters, same crisp sound.it's my main sequencer now, and gets more use than anything else. the learning curve isn't that bad - give yourself a few weeks to tweak around with it and experiment. a zip or other hard drive is a must, btw.my few bitches: it doesnt take the akai filter card. it wont do 64th notes, just 32nd notes. it doesnt have a roland-style step editor, but the pads are fun to use... i wish i could use the pads to enter notes into a 16th note grid, like in my old roland drum programming days. its descended from the mpc-3000, the hip hop drum machine of note, and it's great for that style of music, triphop/breakbeat/techno, or anything that involves lots of drum programming.
