Our latest subject for the SONIC LAB treatment is M-Audio's Oxygen 8 v2, an update of the classic Oxygen 8 from wayback - even before M-Audio were M-Audio. The compact, 25-key USB controller has become a popular companion for the laptop both in the studio or for live work. Or indeed, to perch on the crowded desktop, where space is a premium.
For those in need of beats, basslines or sample triggering, plus the ability to control plug-ins, sequencers or the like, Oxygen 8 v2 might just fit the bill. Our own Nick Batt, Sonic State editor and programmer for glam-electro duo Goldfrapp, takes a look at what version 2 actually means.
We cover installation under Mac OSX, template setup using the free, downloadable Enigma editor and more. This editor covers all M-Audio programmable controlers AND the Evolution range BTW, plus, there's some nifty controller mapping tips from within Apple's Logic Pro sequencing environment.
