There was alot of hype for this card but I don't know if it deserved it all. The sound ain't bad and having all those effects is nice but there are a couple of bad points as well. First off is the drums which I gotta say just aren't any good. I've heard drums on other modules including a korg triton and these drums are pathetic by comparison. Better off getting a drum machine of some sort. However my major problem with this card was that it was a major problem. Getting it up and running with other sequencer software takes some time. I guess if you have that much patience its fine but if not you should avoid this card. I traded it for a terratec ews88mt after I bought my sampler and am having a much easier time with it. For anyone looking for a basic sounding midi module its alright. But having tried midi modules....why would you want one anyway?? Other than drum modules that is.

You can't compare this card to a straight digital I/O card. The strengths of this card are it's 1000+ synth sounds (comparable with the £750 MU128), it's 6 ouput multibus system (for routing VST channels to it's FX), it's effects section and it's plug-in card options.

The sounds are generally very good with 40+ drumkits & some nice synth leads. You can layer them and tweak virtually every aspect in realtime. Synth drums are alway boring but add compression / distortion and you have kicking dance drums.

The effects are of a good quality. The are DSP & require NO CPU power. The can be applied directly to MIDI instruments as individual or system effects, they can be varied by MIDI controllers and applied to any of the audio bus channels. What other card can do that?

The guy that said this card is crap for trance obviously hasn't tweaked the sounds enough or.....

...heard the £199 PLG-150AN which is basically a Yamaha AN1X on a card. For under £200 you get an absolutely CRACKING analogue modelling synth with more edge than a Supernova and literally 1000's of free patches. It is XG controllable (all parameters) & links to the SW1000's FX making it sound way better than the AN1X does. The filters are positively EVIL! :-))

The downside for a single card owner is the latency, it's OK for VST mixing but for playing softsynths thru it is crap. I bought a 2nd (& a 3rd) fast digital I/O card and connected the two - you can then use the SW1000's FX etc on that card's output. If you just want something to play Model-E through then go elsewhere but I don't believe the preachers of soft-synth heaven just yet.

Agreed ... Im returning this card. For trance, XG is almost useless for me, latency is pretty bad. But I'm sure if neither of those are an issue, this would be a great card anyone. I'm getting a Gina24 and waiting for Nuendo to come out.

Latency is not a problem on my G3, but getting it to sync up with Cubase is a bit of a headache (probably has more to do with my lack of skill with that particular program than the card itself). As for the sounds, they are pretty amazing, the effects are all very useful and editable. Most of the web site support is weighted towards wintel machines, but I got my card up and running rather quickly, right out of the box. It could use better I/O, but believe it or not, that little mini-jack input is amazingly quiet.

I'm very happy with the card except the bad latency. ASIO drivers are +100ms. DirectX latency isn't very good either. Not good if you want to run software synths.
