I downloaded simmolator a few weeks ago and started playing around with it. It's amazing! There's a lot of depth to the program and it's one of the few synths I've used that has it's own character and gives you something NEW! You have to know a bit about analog synthesis I guess to really know how to get the best out of it, but theres the random button that throws up a few surprises. It's not real time so I mainly use it to make samples with, but theres nothing else that really does those great low - fi clicky thumps and distorted mangled metal sounds. Top marks for being free.

Simmolator is sort of crap. You can get decent noises from it but it takes it time... And why would you to the sound of a Simmons drum? It's taken us 10 years to get rid of them all. I give it 2 points, 1 for being free and another point for the noisiest distortion I've ever heard. Oh well, another point for the low-fi effect and that you can put wave files through it. But then I have to take off a point for having orange knobs.
