Well this unit has some pros and cons for sure. The sound and quality of the vocoder portion or the formant freeze section is great in comparison to the berringer or zoom vocoder patches in those machines. The analogX vocoder for windows is better(512 bands!!).The major gripe I have which I noticed no one ever got to is:The unit will not detect a mic voice at optimum unless you SCREAM into the mic and turn the synth to full blast!!Both units I bought require me to use a mic preamp and to max out the volume of my synths in order to HEAR the sound. The mic input raw makes the vocal choppy and thus no constant phrases are possible.I dont know but is this the NORMAL operation for this instrument??All is plugged in correct and I followed the example in the manual for simple vocoding but nothing me some one if you have the answer!

Nice unit, sounds a bit dry, but that's only an initial opinion. Tons of carrier/modulator options, it's a great bargain and built as solid as pro-wrestler CHINA. Formant Freeze function is super cool.

Well, I had to have one when I saw them on sale for $100, but now that I finally have it, I sorta wish I picked up the FilterFactory instead.

This is my first vocoder, but it fall short of my expectations of what one should sound like. I like the fact that It had 4 inputs and 4 outputs, but it doesn't process vocal samples from my pc into intelligible computer talking. (Which is what I really wanted it for)

I suppose with another vocoder in tandem working together, I'd change my mind and enjoy it more, but for now, I'm sorta stuck with it. I'll find use for it I'm sure, but mainly for mucking up sounds...I give it a 1.5
