M-Audio Audiophile 2496 is a wonderful card. Installs easily, is very easy to use, and does exactly what it's supposed to. (And it's CHEAP!)
The digital I/O is very reliable. I've done careful tests with 1/2-hour files, computer==>DAT==>computer, and repeatedly found the transfers to be bit-perfect. No glitches of any sort (as long as I leave the screen-saver off).
Analog I/O is fine, though I won't bother doing rigorous tests because I use it only for monitoring.
The user interface is very clear, clearer, in fact, than it appears in the user's manual (which I had downloaded and read before buying the card).

Nice card, but drivers are not exactly pro standard. I can only comment on mac-drivers, because I use this card in a macintosh.
really clear and powerful sound, recording works good.
But there is a problem with crackling and distortion some times. Control-Panel doesn't look and appear very professional. (slow, etc.)...
If they would create better mac-drivers it would be an excellent card.

A great sounding card. Much more dynamic room than the Mac built in. A strange distortio after playing an mp3 for 7 or 8 minutes - pausing the sound and starting again gets rid of it. Also, many cd-roms were shipped with mislabled drivers, so tech advises downloading from the M Audio site. Haven't tried recording yet - but soon.
