Reason's synths are limited and sound plasticy. Propellerheads should just allow people to write their own synths, like VST but for Reason. The subtractor is bested by pretty much any VA, and the granular one is just worthless. The sequencing is good though, if you use Reason to control external stuff.

Enough about the talent issue. True, Reason is good enough. But, I've heard joints produced with Reason by the big artist, and to my ear it has a high anti-aliase sound to everything that comes out of it. I don't know why??? But, Pro-tools, DP, etc all sound Perfect. The bigger apps sound more polished, or "exact" would be right word. I'm not 100% sold on Reason as stand alone tool. It comes close. Be warned, if you want Reason to sound good, you have to flip out money for a good DAC, and supportive software like Pro-Tools, etc. I wish the makers of Reason would promote it more as a "plug-in" rather than an application......because it needs a host application/hardware in order to sound good.

Over the years i have used loads of different programs.. and i would say that reason is up there with the best..The only thing about reason that lets it down is that you cant use any kind of VSTs..plugins etc etc...once you get the hang of it tho you can throw a good sounding track together faster then u can on any other program..Easy navigation too.I recomment it..

Been using Reason for about 2 years now, and it rocks!! Someone recommended it to me when I started talking about making the move from DJing to producing and it has taken me from merely playing around with some ideas to (with some quick outside mastering) my first album. Would definately recommend this application to anyone, beginner or pro. You will find that other applications or hardware is needed at times but its the same with any track sometimes you need to add a sound which you cant find in the tool your using, if this is the case use something else, simple!! For the price there is nothing else that can match it, if you dont have it BUY IT!!!

Talent has everything to do with it!!!! Here are the facts reason is a stand alone sequencer, in fact the number one sequencer in the world now mixing in reason can be helped out by a compressor and eq on the way out ouf the mixer. you can bad mouth the program all you want but it still remains number one. the new prodigy album was done completely in reason. the neptunes use reason, lil john uses reason, the latest primitive machines was cut entirely on reason. my band opiate uses reason live!! once you start using it along with programs like D.P.4 , ableton live, pro tools ect. it becomes extremely powerful. my experience with reason has been great. I hope you all become rich and famous. use whatever tools you want don't bad mouth others, especially when they are tried and true pro gear.
