Dear God, I think you must be doing something totally wrong in Acid, or you're just plain stupid (which I doubt as you are, after all, the creator). Being able to assign Direct X (Waves and all the goodies) as inserts or aux busses with full automation to any given track (unlimited count by the way) at the click of a mouse is truly a pleasure. Quite frankly, if you're a composer who usually spends more time playing live instruments, Acid is a new ball game. But the way you compare it to a tracker has me baffled. I gather you have a crack copy and expected wonders without a quick look through a manual or the Help file. You probably don't realise the power of the right-click functions! If I were you, I'd try to hook up with a somewhat experienced Acid user (and hopefullly more enthusiastic about the program than you are) to show you a few things you have obviously overlooked. I think you may change your outlook on the program as a result. Acid is wonderful. Lots I don't like about it and I know they will improve, but overall...EASY and GETS THE JOB DONE!

I FUCKING HATE ACID!!! It appeared to be what I wanted for so long, a visual GUI version of a tracker, and while it offers alot of features that a tracker dosent(like dsp, well some amiga trackers had limited dsp), it totally nuked all the features that made trackers great. The time stretching and sample arranging is good for loops, but not much else as a working environment. Mods and trackers were/are the only programs that allows you to compose with the most flexibilty. It was entering effects in hexadecimal line by line like a damn unix sysop that made things a pain in the ass. I thought that the paint and erase cursors were cool, but now i can't view the whole chunk of what im working on unless i zoom in or out, its damn frustrating. I miss being able to watch what I was doing in more totality and even with markers flipping to exact parts of your tune sucks. Dammit I just hate working on the computer period, for all I expected from acid, i have alot more fun composing with fast tracker2 or Octamed. What it does though, it does very well, which is arranging. Ok I'm done.

I run Acid Pro 2.0 alongside Cakewalk Pro Audio 7 basically to organize loops, and to find out what works in real time, quickly and easily. As a sampler it is excellent, and combined with my SBLive/Vienna Soundfont studios I have all my sampling needs covered cheaply.

I only use Acid Pro to create loops for importing into my sequencer (in this case Cakewalk 8) as audio files, so MIDI sync etc from Acid is not an issue with me. I have created some songs entirely on Acid Pro just for a bit of wider scope in my composing.

The absolute ease of use, stability, intuitive interface, and sound quality of Acid Pro (when working with decent quality loops of course!) makes it an important part of my setup and for what I use it for I give it a 9 out of 10!

Acid pro is a nice drum machine, but I prefer to actually write music. I hate the grainyness of the program and the 700 hz pileup (low mid garbage) but I love it for doing grungy drum tracks to import to a real sequencer and editor.
