A dual mono dynamics processor that can be linked for stereo operation. Two separate channels each consisting of three switchable sections - compressor, gate and limiter. |
The gate section can be set for use as a conventional gate or as a downward expander, it doesn't have all the controls of a dedicated unit but there is still enuogh variation available for usable results.
The compressor has a full complement of controls including a choice of hard or soft knee, and separate attack and release controls as well as an auto switch for making the release program dependent. A special feature is the Bass Expand knob which allows some low frequency sounds to bypass the compressor so the compressor doesn't reduce the bass content. Turning this up can subjectively increase bass content and punch.
The compressor section is very versatile.Plenty of control over all aspects of compression make this suitable for just about any compression task you could choose to throw at it. Bass expand is a damn cool thing to have especially if you're doing dance music. It adds real dynamic punch and a boost to the bottom end of things.Great for vibing up drum loops. The separate limiter section is very useful for keeping the signal from getting too hot for the next piece of equipment in the chain.A nice safety net when recording to hard disk and dead easy to set up with just one knob.
Getting usable control settings for the gate in expander mode can be a little tricky
