Vance Roquentin writes:
This is an 8" powered front-ported bass-reflex subwoofer designed for use with a pair of pm0.5 mkII speakers.

Good Points
This subwoofer provides a very high level of linear bass output for small recording and mixing environments. It is extremely robust, so it can handle all the analog sub-bass I can throw at it without self-destructing. It is purpose-built to mate perfectly with the Fostex pm0.5 mkII speakers, so there is no difficulty in setting relative levels between the sub and monitors. I am extremely impressed with the sheer amount - and detailed quality - of the bass that this modest-looking subwoofer pours out.
Bad Points
This subwoofer is not completely silent. Even when hooked up to no source, or to a silent source, it emits a low level of high-frequency noise. From more than two or three feet away, it is basically inaudible. More important is the inherent limitation imposed by the ported design. At around 25 or 30 Hz, the sub starts chuffing wildly. At full volume, I can feel the colum of air being forced out of the port at these frequencies from 10 feet away! On the other hand, the fact that the sub goes straight down to those frequencies with no appreciable drop-off in level is amazing.
