The Peavey SX-II is only for sampling sounds to be dumped into an actual sample-playback unit. This may seem odd, but this means that you only have to buy one "sample-recorder" while you can have multiple playback units. The input device on the front includes two ports that can accept XLR or 1/4-inh bal./unbal. inputs. Using the SXII with the SP gives added flexibility because there are certain functions in the SX-II that can only be accessed through the SP via SCSI.
