i've had my s950 from the year it was released,i had used other samplers @ the time s700 with quik disks,s900,msk50 Roland. It has a sound like no other!!! from the early dance scene we used the s950 extensively from studio to live performances using the old the faithful atari, with had tunes in the charts,tv & media using s950 with 1 upgrade board.we used atari software to edit samples via midi.i've got s5000 but still love using the s950.

Matt Thibideau a professional user from Canada writes:
This Sampler is a fantastic sounding machine! I own many hardware samplers (Emulator II, Mirage, S1100, E5000, MPC-60 & a Mac). Where the 950 shines is when you sample sounds in at 48 khz. It has high end that the mpc-60 doesn't. It is clean and dirty at the same time. Software samplers just don't cut it. The S950 may not be as nice as the emulator at playing strings and melodic samples, however it shatters most other samplers at drums. This stuff simply isn't obsolete! What I would love to see is someone create a reliable storage device for all of these older machines so that they can continue to operate!

Dan a professional user from UK writes:
This one separates the musicians from the spec mad audiophiles - The S950 is known for two things - firstly it has lightning fast MIDI response - throw it hats on 32ths and it handles them with ease - this is partly due to its simplistic, bomb proof design. Secondly it has a very crunchy/punchy sound with fast envelopes making percussion and loops eat through the mix - this is due to all the harmonics caused by 12 bit aliasing - exactly the same effect that makes the Roland D50 sound so unique. Easy to use too - a work horse indeed. Shame most rely on floppy disks. A classic all the same.

Holger H a hobbyist user from Germany writes:
I like the S 950 very much. I bought it with full RAM and in very nice condition for 115 Euro at eBay and added an IB-105 Harddisk Interface board, but had to find a 19 pin DMA Atari-like connector on the IB-105 instead of the SCSI connector that the IB-109 has, so i had to add a THE LINK DMA/SCSI connector to hook up a normal SCSI drive, but the Syquest 270 mb drive i use with my S 1100 doesnt work with the S 950, even an 500 mb SCSI harddisk isnt able to be used with it. Only an Atari Megafile 60 lets samples be stored and read by the S 950, but the thing is so damn loud that i cant work with the unit properly. Does anyone know wich drives can be used with the S 950? I am looking for a 88 mb Syquest drive to be tested with it, otherwise i better look for a IB-109.
