I bought one of these in '98 and made some tracks with it. I sold it later to make it through some lean months(02-03. I miss it a little, but not much.
This is the KING of bleeps and strange noises. Patch EG to VCOpitch running off a step sequencer, etc...extreme wierdness. Some good bass and lead sounds, too - snappy envelopes. This a fun little box with some truly mindblowing possibilities. Sort of a poor-man's Synthi/ARP 2600.
I just didn't like the SOUND of it. Too metallic,not warm ONE BIT, rather thin except in the low-end.

You might try two x-fade modules. At the mixer tab. Connect left and right audio to both x-faders. Have one of the x-fade's modulated by left audio, the other by right audio.

I usually don't like to write reviews, but I just feel like venting today. Had this thing for a couple of years now, so I know it pretty well. During that time, I kind of lost interest in dance music and went back to being a guitarist. The thing is, though, this little box went right along with me. I can get some of the most beautiful envelope filter (auto wha) sounds ever from this thing. Think squarepusher or les claypool, but sweeter sounding. My guitar can become a huge old analog synth or a large metallic plate that's being flapped around in the air. A digital piece that can make your playing more expressive, now there's some irony for you. The one thing that I wish this could do would be to crosmodulate the left and right inputs with each other. If anyone could figure out how to do this, you should post it here and my life would be complete! People would see this stupid asshole with two microphones, a red box and a laptop running around everywhere looking for the perfect mixture. I guess what I've been trying to say is that it's so cool that you can let the world into your synth and let it be your oscillator. Not that the oscs in this thing don't kick ass. And it looks cheap too, so people won't suspect it. If you're worried about it being hard to program; it isn't. If you've ever used software modulars, this is way easier. Unlike it's prettier aunt, the NL, this has loads of low end and lightning fast envelopes and timing. and on and on and on.... If you like anything from pink floyd to autechre, you'll find this little guy useful. If you want oakenfold in a box, get a micro q.

It's a great little piece of equipment! Though it's very limited in it's DSP so you really have to plan what type of sounds you want to do. Since it's a modular system it's quite complicated, sure you can go for that old subtractive synthesis if you want to! But it's much more fun to just go wild and patch it up like it's a bondage party! Cabels all over the place! I've made 4 drumkits (16 drum sounds + L-in as a fx-unit (only using 70%)) out of logic signals that imho sounds just great ;) Buy it and love it!
