EOS 4.70 is NOT buggy. I use a E4-XT Ultra with 128 Polyphony, 2x16 Midi-Channels, AES/EBU & 4 GB SCSI-HD. It works fine. No Crashes or anything else. The E4 is just a wonderful Instrument and i love its Sound more than any other Sampler e. Software. I bought the E-MU-Lib. and that's right: they feature really GREAT SOUNDS! I love them. Thank you! www.jazzbereich.de

Back to earth, people. The E6400 and other "big-box" samplers are all gutless wonders. Tremendous specs, and my - what a spiffy big screen. But the sound is terrible. These things have no character at all. They sound thin, thin, THIN. I struggled to get decent sounds out of mine for a few years before I sold it in disgust.
The sound of an E6400/... is easy to get. Simply dial up your Kontakt soft-sampler on your host. It's no different. It sounds exactly the same - AWFUL.

I've had my E6400 classic now for almost a year. It is maxed out at 128MB & 128 Voice. I bought an outboard scsi hdd (9.0GB)/cd-rom drive. The sounds this thing is capable of is amazing. Though the loading time makes it a bit iffy for live use. Whether just using sounds from the current E-mu library straight, or running samples through those amazing filters, you can't go wrong. Too bad Creative Labes has decided to discontinue E-mu's hardware line of keyboards and samplers.

I'd like to add this to my last review:
Flash memory - it is important to have some in order to be able to load sounds and presets without needing to get to the hard disks. I think the E4X and E4XT are not equipped with any while the Ultra models does.
Internal RAM - These are supposed to be standard EDO RAM chips but as far as I understand most of the ones used for PC are not compatible with the Emu's.
As for the E64, as far as I understand, is by all means an older model and less advanced than the E4X, E4XT and 6400.
