I have a 01/W Pro X, 01/W FD and 01R/W. They are the mainstays of my studio... I use the rack mount unit on the road with an old Yamaha DX7 for the controller... vintage band with vintage look... horns, sax and strings do great fills and put on a combination allow me to have the keyboard splits for all three independent sounds in different ranges... the piano and organ sound work well as backups for my old Hammond B... Keep on Rockin'

Get it, open the box, plug it in and play any of the string sounds on either the Prog or Combi sections (they all end in 7, so try Prog 07 or Combi 87). Here you will fall in love with this synth.
Further - the synth action is a pleasure. The keyboard responds the way a synthesizer should... not too light (banging), not too soft (mushy feel), but just right (something like an organ but not exactly... hard to explain). The aftertouch is great on this keyboard and it's ruggedness is renown. A very sturdy, reliable, roadworthy workhorse of a synth. Great pianos and organs - mediocre analog emulations - good noises - average drum kit. A lot of the software is dedicated to the sequencer. Useful if you want to learn it. Otherwise it will accept standard MIDI files.
A studio or live venue workhorse.

I've been using a O1/W for about 7 years now and I think it's still quite a awesome sounding keyboard. The piano sound I think is one of the best around. It's warm and full sounding. It also offers a full array of sounds that are still quite valid even for 2002. The only down side of this keyboar is it's key mecanism. Unfortually, after time some key will have a slower response time. I had to get it cleaned and re-seated by Korg professionals at the cost of 150$ CDN. It is still a keyboard of choice and I will continue using it until nothing can't be done with it and this might take another while!
