Cory - In response to the battery issue (if you haven't already resolved it), it requires a 3.6V NiCD 3/V60R. The factory batter is made by Varta.
I believe it needs to be soldered in...

The C8's massiveness is its greatest strength AND weakness. As long as you've got a good stand, you can pound rockabilly etc. on this, and it won't budge or creep away from you as some boards will do. But the thing is so big, it requires a custom case, and if you don't have a van or pickup, you'll think twice before gigging with it. I HAVE gotten it into the passenger compartment of a Chevy Impala, but I wouldn't want to do it often. (The trunk was full, but I'm not even sure if it would have fit into the pass-thru where you flop down the rear seat.
Interface is not the most intuitive--especially for program changes--but it's pretty simple once you've learned your way around. I think I recall that you can get the OS updated to include the ability to play SMFs, but I'm not sure who does it. If I were gigging with it, that would be a big plus.
The keyboard action is definitely the best around. But my bet is that all these guys rating it a 5 are basing that on the keyboard action and that it rarely leaves their studio.

I have used this beauty four several years and love it. I recommend getting one and keeping it. If you need a more portable unit go for the newer version. In studio or at home this is the best action I have been able to find. I play daily and can tell you this is the best feel for those of us who also play acoustic pianos.
