I got one a little over a week ago and I absolutely LOVE it! It is a pain to program if you don't have a PG800, but there are SysEx upgrades available to allow patch editing via MIDI. The sound is fantastic, and personally I love the filter.

The JX10 is one of the best kept secrets in the synth world. It is extremely fatt, and has some of the most lucious strings I have ever heard. It floors me that you can still buy one for under $500.00.

I own a Roland JX8p for almost 10 years, and this weekend i bought a secondhand JX-10,a beast of a synthesizer:really awesome! The JX10 is a masterpiece of pure Roland analoge synthesis,i compare it only with the JX8p,both sound almost the same, the JX10 has some more "clear" and more "pure" sound, the JX8p sounds a bit more "misty" and "dark" or "darker" And believe me:the 2hand prices already going up for a JX10,my JX10 i never wil sell,my dream come tru to own this beauty, hurry up to buy one secondhand,if you can find one out there:good luck!!

I have just spent about an hour A/Bing a JX 8p and the JX 10 Listening for noise floor hiss..
The noise floor on the 8P is much higher then the JX10 when they both have chours on. Without chorus they were pretty similar. In fact the JX10s noise floor sounded a little louder but that could have been cable interference or something.
also, like Gil mentioned about the mks70, the JX10 sounds similar to the JX8P but not exactly the same.
Oh and it does sweet strings/pads.

Stunning!! All I could tell about that monster! I remember my first impression of it... didn't know a single bit about synths whatsoever (poor Casio-tronic heritage :( )... I rediscovered it after many years by getting interested in synthesis and sound. What a surprise it was to notice what a monster I'd been dealing with.. I picked the synth up from my former school... and saved it from total demise! Cleaned the keyboard (velo and aftertouch), checked the electronics, got rid of mess.. IT WORKS!! and what it works?!?! I had to make up almost 1/2 of tones, cause some stupid idiot lost the m-64, and the RAM tones were missing... SHortly, having tweaked the Alpha-bastard (lousy and utterly annoying in principle.. Alpha Juno is way ahead) I got lush strings, ethereal pads, speaker-killing basses and brain-splitting leads! Keyboard makes wonders (upon refreshing its features of course)! The looks... never seen as sexy beast as this one! It's a true analog capable of wonders! the only con is..MIDI of course. But you can't stop loving it.
