Epiphone is kicking off 2014 with a January giveaway featuring the Limited-Edition Matthew K. Heafy Epiphone Les Paul Custom 6-string. Epiphone tells us that, designed in close collaboration with Matt Heafy, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the band Trivium, the limited-edition Les Paul Custom reflects Heafy's distinctive approach to guitar which has earned Heafy and Trivium millions of fans around the world. Heafy's Les Paul Custom is one of the most popular and successful Epiphone Signature models to date.
"The first run of Matt's Les Paul Custom completely sold out – fans can't get enough of it," said Epiphone President, Jim Rosenberg. "Matt Heafy is one of the most enthusiastic artists I've worked with; he loves his fans and he loves his guitars. We look forward to working with Matt again in the future."
"It is a privilege to call myself an Epiphone artist," said Matt Heafy. "Epiphone has given me the opportunity to craft exactly the kind of guitar I have always dreamed of: The Epiphone Matthew Kiichi Heafy Signature Les Paul Custom, inspired by my very first Gibson Les Paul Custom that my father gave me. Epiphone's MKH LPC includes a series of playability specifications that I fine-tuned along with EMG 81/85 pickups and an Axcess heel to achieve an easier playability at the highest frets. With those modifications and a base-modeling of my original Les Paul Custom – the guitar was complete!"
Here's what Epiphone has to say about the guitar:
The Ltd. Ed. Matthew K. Heafy Epiphone Les Paul Custom features an all blacked-out Ebony gloss finish that's especially striking on the sleek profile of a LP Custom. Like all great Les Pauls, the Matt's 6-string Ltd. Ed. Custom features a mahogany body with a plain maple veneer top, a time-tested combination. The mahogany neck has a fast 1960's SlimTaper™ "D" profile with a glued-in deep set neck joint with an "Axcess" heel for a smooth and easy reach to the upper frets. The scale length is 24.75" and the Ebony fingerboard has a 12" radius with 22 medium jumbo frets and features pearloid block inlays.
The Matthew K. Heafy Les Paul Custom's EMG pickups are voiced especially for the Custom's unique profile with an EMG-85 in the neck position and an EMG-81 in the bridge position. The EMG-81 is one of the most popular 'metal' pickups ever and has been at the center of a sound revolution since it was first introduced. Utilizing powerful ceramic magnets and close aperture coils, the EMG-81 is designed for detailed intensity, incredible amounts of high end cut, and fluid sustain. The EMG-85 features Alnico-V magnets and has a slightly more rounded tone. The classic combination offers metal guitarists an incredible array of possibilities.
The Ltd. Ed. Heafy Les Paul Custom also includes Epiphone's no-compromise electronics with a 1/4" non-rotating output jack and volume and tone controls with Black Speed Knobs that are powered by full-size 500K potentiometers. The pickup switch is Epiphone's all-metal 3-way pickup selector with a black toggle cap.
Like all Epiphones, the Matt Heafy LP Custom includes made-to-last heavy duty hardware including Epiphone StrapLocks, and a black LockToneTM Tune-o-matic/StopBar bridge. You'll also find deluxe die-cast machine heads with metal "tulip buttons" with a 14:1 tuning ratio. The winner will also receive an Epiphone Certificate of Authenticity signed by Heafy and Epiphone President Jim Rosenberg.
