I just bought my QS8.1, can you believe this-for $499.00! And it even came with the wheeled case. I couldn't believe the price when I saw it in the pawn shop.
Anyway, I have to say that is it a wonderful synth. It's solidly built, logically laid out, and the sounds are awesome. Having played many, many synths old and new over the years with plastic keys, the weighted keys on the QS8 are a welcome addition. I am not a solo, or concert pianist, so I will leave the nitpicking to them about the feel and action of the keyboard.
The external card slots and computer interface jacks give the unit an added simension.
All in all I have to give this synth 4.9 out of 5. There is no such thing as the perfect synth. Like everything else, it has it strengths and weaknesses. Work with what it can do and you'll be a happy camper.

It´s my first synth. I´m bought this one just because I was not standing to carry my mother´s B3 to the gigs..So I have nothing to complain about the weight of it. Have some amusing sounds and program it is as easy as some children´s old Casio stuff. Just love it.If it could sample, it was perfect

I just went in to my local music emporium to get an Alesis drum machine and came out with a QS8. (Oh, my aching back.) I got the drum machine alright and some good pianos, organs, and kind of interesting sounds. I later got some Q cards with hiphop and drum&bass and euro-techno patterns and sounds. (The euro card is kind of light on patterns though, so you'll really have to work to take apart what's there to put together something kool.) Over time I've learned how to control the Q card sample playback speeds with the pitch control!! I've learned how to kinda alter the programs with the usual params. But, here's where the machine falls to the ground. The sounds are not that alterable!!! You can mixup a lot of patches, but you can't really pull the patches apart (drastically) with the filters or envelop generators (or at least it's not obvious how to). The effects control is also somewhat marginal and there are not that many effects to begin with. In fact, the modulation resolution on all of the controls is coarse and stepped. The upshot of all of this is that you won't be able to start with a grand piano sound and end up with something like a bull roarer in a cave. However, if you like what you're given you can piece together whole pieces with just this one synth and a good sequencer. I use it in combo with a K2500RS. The QS8 does the basic conventional instrumentation and drums while the K2500RS does everything else and drums.

Don't know about the synth part, as I was only looking for a good keyboard (88 keys) and piano sound. But I must say I was a little dissapointed when I first heard it in the store.The keyboard feels kind of heavy and the sound just could not impress me. It just didn't have the "piano-feel" I was looking for. Finding the right musical instrument will always be a very personal matter!

I've been able only to use this synth at my local Musicians Superstore (is that spelled right?), so I haven't been able to play around with it THAT much. But, I can positivly say that this is a very serious synth. I've played many synths, and own three (a Casio WK-1630, which is my primary one, a Casio CTK-601, and a Yamaha PSS-190?). So far, I like this thing as much as I like my WK-1630 (I wrote the review on that, so see what I mean).
So far, my favorite sound is probably the open high-hat on the UFO Drum kit. Other than that, the strings don't sound quite as good as my WK-1630's, but better than the Roland and Yamaha patches I've heard (Yamaha W7/5, and many Rolands). Definitly worth it's money.
